Hong Kong Children’s Hospital taking shape

Construction is nearing completion at the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital (HKCH) project where BLP were specially engaged as Medical Planners.

HKCH will be the first children’s hospital in Hong Kong’s public healthcare system focussing on tertiary services and multi-disciplinary specialty care for complex and rare paediatric cases, bringing together healthcare expertise, research and training across two towers with over 460 beds for inpatient and day-patient services.

BLP Project Director Mark Mitchell and the team collaborated closely with Simon Kwan & Associates Ltd to bring innovative health planning, international best practice and lessons learned from our work on Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, Perth Children’s Hospital and other major tertiary healthcare developments to HKCH.

Construction works began in August 2013 and are expected to be completed by 2017 for service commissioning in 2018. A design-and-build approach was adopted in partnership between Architectural Services Department (HK), awarded contractor China State / Shui On joint venture and users from Hospital Authority (HK).
