Rotary and Fixed Airwing

The building form is consistent with the general approach to Hangar typology – a large shed component with attached single storey office/workshop elements

The Rotary and Fixed Wing Facility is the development of a combined Air Wing Facility for Victoria Police and Metropolitan Ambulance Service at Essendon Airport. This combined facility replaced and colocated the existing Victoria Police Air Wing, which also operates the Air Ambulance Victoria rotary service, and the Air Ambulance Victoria fixed wing service, which operated at separate locations in the Essendon Airport precinct.

The Rotary Wing Facility was Stage 1 of the development and comprised of three main components: the Apron, the Hangars and the ancillary support areas including offices, mess areas and maintenance facilities.

The building form is consistent with the general approach to Hangar typology – a large shed component with attached single storey office/workshop elements. Roof profiles and large doorway elements are the primary expressive elements.
