Ballarat Base Hospital Gardiner-Pittard Wing

A modern light-filled open reception area eschews traditional hospital language to create a warm and friendly entrance.

The project delivers a new helipad, plus 60 extra beds for Ballarat Health Services and relocation of the ambulatory care services in a new three storey building. The helipad is based on top a new multi-deck car park, the rooftop location determined by suitable flight paths and in consultation with Air Ambulance Victoria.

The additional 199 car spaces take the pressure off car parking congestion in and around the hospital. The helipad saves vital minutes in time-critical transfers and emergency arrivals, ensuring more people in and around Ballarat can be transported to Ballarat Base Hospital or to major trauma hospitals in Melbourne much faster.

“With Ballarat being a vital centre in emergency health services servicing the western half of Victoria, immediate access for medical helicopters is long overdue. Air ambulances have dramatically decreased response times for critically-injured patients – particularly in regional and rural areas.” – Minister for Health David Davis
