Low density housing development achieving 6 star energy rating

A significant component of the proposed Village Park development was to be provided as Social Housing. This housing was to provide differing types of accommodation and be integrated within the overall fabric of the Village. The housing was to be provided as one and two bedroom Older Persons Apartments, two bedroom Family Apartments and larger four bedroom Family Townhouses.

An important design consideration was the seamless integration in form and approach between these buildings and adjacent market apartments. A consistent urban form was an important guiding principle for the entire project. A palette of materials was established that was appropriate to both the private and social housing apartments.

All of these apartment buildings incorporated significant environmental features including: Grey Water Recycling, Solar Hot Water, Storm Water Retention, Photovoltaic cells, and they all achieved 6 Star Energy ratings. They were also designed to be accessible to all.

The apartments were used initially for athlete accommodation during the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
