Since the Austin Health redevelopment was formally announced in 1994, this was the first serious attempt to consider options other than a total development on the Repatriation site.
The proposed relocation of the Mercy Hospital for Women from East Melbourne and co-location with the Austin Hospital was a separate, albeit linked project.The Mercy project had a separate Steering Committee supported by the same DHS team to ensure congruence of the two projects.
The masterplan was a joint project between BLP and Di Carlo Potts & Associates. The project team completed a draft investment evaluation report comparing the site development options with the base case of maintaining existing facilities. This analysis combined the financial and socio-economic impacts of the proposed development.
