Building 2
In 2006 GE’s Swan Street offices will be the headquarters of their south-east Asian operations. In the first phase they will expand into a new building that provides in excess of 14,000sqm of office space over four levels, rising above three levels of car parking. Situated in the centre of the site, the new building addresses a plaza giving a prominent view of the primary façade, which will become the new corporate face of GE. Building 2, as it is known, is sited opposite their existing building and makes possible an enclosed bridge between the two.
Broad floor plates surround a roof-top glazed central atrium, which provides natural light and a socially connected work environment. The western edge gives views across the golf course and to the city. The social dimensions of work are now recognised as crucial to the economic outcomes of the workplace.
Health, recreational, and retail facilities at the workplace contribute to a balance of life and work. Addressing Swan Street, at the head of the entry drive, are retail-use buildings: 4, 5 and 6. They will be developed concurrently to attract on-site retail facilities such as a crèche, café, food outlets, hairdresser and gymnasium. The facilities are intrinsic to the master planning concept and are integrated to draw life and work together at a communal hub in walking distance of all corners of the site.
