Dónal has over 30 years of experience in Australia and Europe on a wide variety of projects. At BLP his responsibilities have included residential, health masterplanning, institutional, commercial and retail developments.

He has recently led the team for the Royal Melbourne Hospital Redevelopment Masterplan 2009. This included consideration of the impact of the proposed Parkville Comprehensive Cancer Centre (PCCC) on RMH. Dónal had previously been responsible for the Royal Children’s Hospital Masterplan Strategy Review 2002 and the Royal Women’s Hospital Masterplan and Options Analysis 2002, subsequent Feasibility Study and PPP Bid to relocate the hospital.

Dónal has recently overseen the completion of the Grand Hyatt Redevelopment on Collins Street and Russell Street in Melbourne, reconfiguring the retail and creating a new laneway style route through the building to the hotel lobby and Russell Street, with a new façade and a new image. He has also recently completed the new Rotary and Fixed Wing Facility at Essendon Airport for Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria, which combined 24-hour facility includes flight control centres, hangars, apron parking, sleeping accommodation, medical area and amenities.

In Europe, Dónal worked with leading architectural practices Scott Tallon Walker, Delany McVeigh & Pike, and Burke-Kennedy Doyle in Ireland. Joining Y.R.M. Architects & Planners in the UK, to work on the $400m new North Terminal at Gatwick London Airport, he went on to become team leader on a Satellite Communications Offices project in London Docklands.
