The Delano
Mona Vale

Apartment project, Sydney

This development comprises of single-level apartments fronting Golf Avenue and four courtyard townhouses behind.

The introduction of single-level apartments, with lift access, recognises the needs of older people in the market place. Consequently a diversity of people is likely to result from an interesting mix of living options.

The four courtyard townhouses make the most of the northerly aspect of the site. Downstairs living areas open onto private courtyards and semi-enclosed outdoor rooms designed as extensions of the formal living areas. In relation to architectural design and style, we made a considered departure from the existing developments in the area, although adopting some similar materials and finishes, to produce greater diversity in the general urban fabric. Large window walls take advantage of views over the adjacent golf course, with extensive balconies producing depth to the facade and bringing life into view. By extending the roof form over these balconies, a more horizontal reading of the building is achieved, reducing its perceived size in the streetscape.
