Barwon Health TTR Facility

This facility developed to provide state-of-the-art teaching spaces for final year students completing degrees at the Deakin University School of Medicine.

A facility for Barwon Health and Deakin University opposite the Geelong Hospital, the TTR is sited within a U shaped complex of existing heritage hospital buildings, creating a student courtyard space and giving the entire site a new context – that of training new doctors and health professionals.

A visibly enticing interior presented from the exterior invites entry to the linear top lit gallery. A colourful gallery interior sets up a clear wayfinding system binding the building’s two boxes which organise clear functional groupings of the teaching/administrative areas and the training/research areas. These spaces are supported by a gently sloping theatre lecture hall, student/staff lounge and casual breakout area which take advantage of northern views overlooking the courtyard. The training centre is a strong but sympathetic addition to the Geelong Hospital campus.
