BLP to undertake Masterplanning Services for National Proton Beam Therapy Centre

Following Minister for Health Jill Hennessy’s announcement that the State Government of Victoria has provided $50 million in funding towards establishing a National Proton Beam Therapy Centre (NPBTC), Billard Leece Partnership (BLP) has been engaged to undertake masterplanning services for this cutting edge project – the first of its kind in Australia, and only the second in the south east Asia region.

Bringing together experts in research and cancer treatment from both the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the University of Melbourne with combined leading medical and research facilities, the NPBTC will provide world-class treatment for Victorians.

Proton Beam Therapy provides an alternative to traditional radiation therapy and due to the high level of precision, is ideal for treating more complex cancers and cancer in children. It also offers a distinct advantage for both paediatric and adult cancers where there is a reduced risk of toxicity and causing cancers later in life.

Ron Billard, Director at BLP commented:

Securing the National Proton Beam Therapy Centre is an important reflection of our specialist masterplanning and healthcare services and our focus on the highest quality delivery standards. This is a major investment by Victoria into bringing in the most technologically advanced treatments, and is a key statement of Victoria’s commitment in the fight against cancer.
